“My paintings are visual stories
informed and inspired by my life experiences and feelings. Stories I can’t put into words so I paint with the intention to allow viewers to discover a story they can create for themselves. That’s why I’ve always been so drawn to Abstraction and its imaginative gateway.
It’s a journey of self-discovery and it’s my visual language.”
Artistic Process
Douglas is an abstract acrylic artist his art is an intuitive process: Multiple layers are covered and revealed, colours and contrast support gestural strokes. The use of palette knife creates a sense of motion and rawness combined with the element of spontaneity that aim to inspire and uplift the curiosity and captivate the viewers. The process of ‘opposing energy and give & take’ involves applying and removing paint and other media until the composition has a distinct sensibility and one can feel the journey of the creation. The balance of both positive and negative space is essential in his creation of art. Inviting you with an open inquisitive mind to explore and interpret the painting.
